It was from this point on that Denis’ dedication to fitness and athletics began in earnest. He began training seriously as a long jumper and started learning about his body and the science of diet and exercise. While in school, Denis also began showing strong results in competitions, winning the Krasnodar Regional Championship in his age group and making the Krasnodar Regional Team in track and field.

Upon completing high school at seventeen, Denis Gusev entered Krasnodar’s State University in Physical Education and Sport, which he completed with Honors and received the Bachelor’s Degree in 2002. Denis pursued and received a Master’s Diploma in Physical Education two years later from the same university. In recent years, Denis decided once again to continue his education, and he is currently pursuing a Master’s Diploma in Economics and Statistics on a part-time basis at a prestigious Moscow University.

As a 26-year old, Denis moved from Krasnodar to Moscow and began to work as a Personal Trainer at the leading “World Class” fitness chain in Moscow.  While working in “World Class” Denis continued to raise the level of his training and fitness education, and he soon began receiving requests for modeling assignments and appearances at fitness and fashion shows. Since 2007, Denis participated in numerous assignments as a fitness model and has been photographed by the leading fashion photographers in Russia, working for such magazines as «Maxim», «GQ», «Wedding», «Optika Magazine», and others. Denis also participated in television commercials on behalf of «Megafon», «Синепарк», «Delta», and «». The fitness chains “World Class” and “X-fit” had at one time Denis Gusev as their ‘face of the franchise’.

In 2012, Denis Gusev took part in a classical bodybuilding competition at the urging of Dmitry Yashankin, a multiple World Champion in the sport and a leading figure in Russia’s bodybuilding community. With Dmitry Yashankin’s help and coaching, Denis was able to reach a Top-10 ranking in Russia within three months. At his very first competition in the sport, Denis took 8th place at the Russian Championship. During the spring season of 2013, Denis competed in three separate competitions, placing in Top-3 in all the competitions. A detailed account of the awards is given in the next section below.

Earlier this year Denis Gusev has shifted his focus to Men’s Physique, in which he intends to make a long-term professional career as a competitor. At his very first competition in this category, Denis placed 2nd in the recent World Championship in Kiev in the 178+ cm. class, which indicates that Denis indeed has a real opportunity to become number one in the sport in the nearest future. He continues to train seriously and responsibly and intends to participate at this year’s Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid and in most of the upcoming Men’s Physique events this year and beyond. Denis’ future plans include reaching the top position in world rankings in Men’s Physique, obtaining a pro-card, which would allow him to compete professionally in the US and other countries, and establishing professional relationships with leading corporate sponsors.

Being an educated fitness and nutrition expert allows Denis not only to take good care of his own body but to help others, especially young people, to train their bodies correctly and to learn proper nutrition. Denis is an avid user of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and VKontakte, and he has millions of fans in Russia.
